Briefing on the Department of English Language and Literature
The Department of English Language and Literature was established in 2009 in order to meet the growing needs of the local market place with qualified cadres in English. The Department is also in charge of offering courses of English Communication Skills to students in other faculties. During the academic year, the Department holds activities that aim at strengthening the students' communication with other cultures in addition to developing their communication skills, and enhancing their self-confidence linguistically and culturally.
The Department of English offers the following programs: B.A in English Language and Literature and B.A in French and English Languages in partnership with the Department of French Language and Literature. The Department is in the process of developing a new B.A program of Applied English.
The Department of English seeks to provide the labor market with highly qualified graduates in language in order to contribute to meeting the needs of the educational, tourist, and cultural sectors in Aqaba in particular and in Jordan in general. The Department offers courses that suit the needs of the labor market, such as translation, language teaching, linguistics and literature.
The Department includes three faculty members holding P.h D and four holding M.A degrees. Since its inception, the Department has delegated a number of M.A holders to pursue their higher studies in the fields of literature, translation and linguistics. The number of students in the Department is (185).
